Things to do in Swansea, from the waterfront to Mumbles

Build a Swansea day around museums, the bay, a performance or an activity you can join.

Spend a morning in the Maritime Quarter

The National Waterfront Museum explores Wales through its industrial and maritime stories. Its location makes it a useful anchor for a day around the marina. Choose an exhibition or theme to start with, then leave room for a walk and something to eat nearby.

Museum entry is free, with current admission and visiting arrangements on its own website. Swansea Museum and the Dylan Thomas Centre add other possible stops in the wider quarter. Pick the ones that interest your group rather than turning a gentle outing into a race between doors.

Make the bay or Mumbles the main event

Swansea Bay gives a city visit space to breathe. A short promenade walk and a cafe stop can work as an outing in their own right. Mumbles offers another starting point, with its seafront, independent shops and places for ice cream.

Allow time to travel between the centre and Mumbles. For a Gower outing, choose one destination and plan the route carefully instead of treating the peninsula as an extra quick stop. Coastal paths and beaches have different conditions, so match the walk to your group and the weather.

Choose an activity with a local organisation

Dylan Thomas Theatre in the Maritime Quarter offers a reason to build an evening around a performance. Swansea Print Workshop provides another way into the city’s creative life through printmaking. Look at the organiser’s current programme to find a session that suits your interests.

BikeAbility Wales at Dunvant Rugby Club offers inclusive cycling opportunities, with booking information on its own site. An organised activity can be a good choice when you want more than sightseeing. Check who the session is for and arrange it with the provider.
